Welcome to Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC), where your future is our focus! To get started, LFCC has a special program to get you up, running, and registered for classes. All new students should follow the steps detailed below. Please also view the list of categories to the right to see if one of them applies more directly to you. Thank you!
New Students
- Fill out and submit an application for admission.
The following curricula have specific admission requirements in addition to the general admission requirements.
- Take a placement test
Complete placement testing or submit SAT scores to the Testing Center. LFCC requires all new students to take placement tests in reading, writing, and math. The results of these tests are used to help students and advisors determine appropriate course selection. Students whose scores indicate specific weaknesses may be required to enroll in and successfully complete skills improvement courses prior to college course work. Electronic study materials are available at www.act.org/compass/sample. Additional practice materials are available at www.testprepreview.com. If you have previously attended a college or university, you may qualify for an exemption.
Note: Allow approximately two hours for placement testing.
Placement testing at the Middletown Campus is available on a first-come, first-serve basis when the College and library are open during the following hours:
Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Placement testing at the Fauquier Campus is available on a first-come, first-serve basis during the following hours:
Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 6:30p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Placement testing at the Luray-Page County Center is available by appointment only. Please call 540-843-0722 to schedule an appointment.
Photo ID is required.
One of the following photo IDs must be provided:
- valid driver's license
- passport
- photo I.D. from D.M.V.
- U.S. military I.D.
A student who presents SAT scores of at least 500 verbal and/or 500 math, from a testing date within the last five years, is not required to take placement testing and may register for college level courses. SAT scores must be forwarded to the College's Testing Center directly from the College Board.
- Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships
LFCC offers financial aid in the form of grants and scholarships to full-time and part-time students.
- To apply for Federal and State grants, you must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online.
- To apply for scholarships, you must complete the online scholarship application. To do this, see the LFCC Scholarship Web site.
- To apply for Veterans Affairs benefits, see our Web site and click the How to Apply link.

Please complete our online reservation form to reserve your spot.
Space for each session is limited and due to the nature of our orientation process, we will be unable to accommodate walk-ins at the orientations.
Students attending the Luray-Page County Center should contact the staff directly for a registration appointment.

Check in will begin a half hour before the start time. Bring your placement test scores with you.
Please note you must attend the entire orientation in order to register for classes.
