Circulation Policies
Library Cards
Students, as well as residents of LFCC's service region, may obtain a library card without charge. To obtain a library card you must present photo identification. Your library card does not expire; it is good indefinitely and can be updated annually. You must have your card to check out any items, including reserves. There is a $2 fee to replace a lost card.
Check-Out Period
Books in the Main collection may be checked out for three weeks. Circulating videos, best sellers, and back issues of magazines may be checked out for one week. Non-circulating videos and most reference books must be used in the library. Course reserve materials check-out periods are set by the course instructor - usually they must be used in the library.
Renewals
You may renew books as long as they have not been requested by another patron. Books may be renewed in person or by phone. Please have your library card and books with you when you call. When renewing books by phone you must call on or before the due date.
Book Return
Middletown Campus: When returning books please place them in the book drop at the circulation desk, the book drop on the outside wall of the library, or in the curbside book drop. Return all audio and video tapes to the circulation desk.
Fauquier Campus: When returning books please place them in the book drop at the circulation desk, to the mobile book drop outside the library doors when it's closed, or to the blue curbside book drop. Return all audio and video tapes to the circulation desk.
Overdue Materials
The LRC does not collect fines on a daily basis. If you have materials overdue, staff will send you two reminders. When materials are returned promptly there will be no charge.
After two overdue notices are sent, you will be billed for the replacement cost of library materials, along with a fine and processing charges. Bills not paid promptly will be deducted from any future state income tax returns.
Please remember that unpaid library fines and book costs are entered into your student record and any outstanding obligations will prevent registration and the release of transcripts.
Damaged Materials
Materials that are returned damaged will be billed for replacement cost plus a processing fee.
