Clarifying Myths about the TRIO Program
Myth 1 - TRIO is a direct resource for financial aid
TRIO is an academic need grant first and foremost. Students who join TRIO must become active participants in the program, make a commitment to utilizing services and sign a program contract.
Myth 2 - TRIO can help ANY student with academic need
The U.S. Department of Education dictates that TRIO programs be campus specific; therefore, the TRIO Student Support Services Program is available only to students enrolled in classes at the Middletown Campus and/or to those students who commit to active, weekly participation on the Middletown Campus. Further, the program is limited to providing services to 160 students at a time, and those students must qualify for the program under federally established eligibility requirements.
Myth 3 - TRIO is the tutor service provider for the Middletown Campus
Students seeking tutoring services should apply through the Student Learning Center's Tutor Connection. Student Learning Center personnel, including TRIO staff, will assign tutors to all students, regardless of TRIO affiliation, as appropriate.
