Nursing Degree Introduction
Associate of Applied Science Degree
Approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing, the nursing curriculum prepares graduates to enter the nursing profession as registered nurses (RNs). Employment opportunities for RNs include, but are not limited to, hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, home health care, health departments, physicians' offices and the military. Admission to the program is limited and highly competitive. Enrollment is based on grade point average, completion of the program's general education course requirements and standardized entrance test results. Priority enrollment is given to residents of the LFCC service region. Advance placement is available to students who are Certified Nurse Aides (Virginia certification required). A transition option is available for students who are Licensed Practical Nurses (Virginia license required). Students must undergo a criminal background check and drug-screening test and satisfy immunization and health status requirements.
