Master Planning
Campus Master Planning is a critical component of the College's planning process, and is required by VCCS to be performed every 10 years. The master planning process supports the broad mission and vision of the College by evaluating the physical facilities needs of the College for the next decade.
The process occurs in two phases: space programming and capital project planning. The space program is constructed by examining current activity and reviewing existing documentation, and determining the expected changes in demand for the College's services. The second phase of the master planning project involves the specification of facilities that will accommodate the space program. This is a complex process based on an understanding of the current campus structures, infrastructure, and, to some extent, future resource availability. The result of this process is the final Master Plan, which provides a vision for the future physical environment required to meet the needs of the College. This plan is used as the basis for future renovations, College capital outlay planning, and associated space utilization.
