Dear Editor:

Late one evening several weeks ago, a Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) student was assaulted in the parking lot of the LFCC Fauquier Campus. Fortunately, she is fine and has returned for classes. The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office is conducting a thorough investigation and working closely with the College's security manager.

In response to this isolated incident, our College security manager has increased security patrols on the Fauquier Campus. Also, the Warrenton Police Department, the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police are patrolling our area more frequently. I appreciate their guidance and assistance in ensuring that our campus remains a safe environment for our students, employees and visitors.

This incident serves as a reminder for us all to remain vigilant when we are in any public place after dark.  LFCC students and employees have received safety tips that will help them in any setting. These tips are available on the LFCC Web site at www.lfcc.edu/safetytips.

Campus safety is a top priority for me and the other employees of the College. We are taking the necessary steps to maintain the security of both LFCC campuses. Together with local community members and law enforcement officials, we will ensure LFCC remains one of the safest community colleges in the Commonwealth. Thank you.

Sincerely,

John J. "Ski" Sygielski
President
Lord Fairfax Community College
