PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT MEETING

September 9, 2004

Members Present:  Anne Legge, Brent Kendrick, Carolyn Garrison, Carolyn Haines, Gary Tusing, Ramon Selove, and Joyce Earhart.  Also present were Karen Foreman and Margaret Barnett.

Karen and Margaret gave insight to the new LFCC Educational Assistance Policy.  The Educational Aid is in addition to the Professional Development funds, and applies only to credit classes.  The policy is “job focused” for those applying for reimbursement, and adjunct faculty members are excluded from the Educational Assistance policy.  The Professional Development committee would be responsible for reviewing requests for seminars, workshops, and Group Activities.

The requests for tuition assistance that had been received by the Professional Development Committee were turned over to Karen Foreman, who is in charge of the LFCC Educational Assistance Policy.

The Professional Development committee continued its meeting, with Gary making a motion to increase the quota to $1000.00.  Ramon seconded the motion, and it was voted on and passed.

Meetings will be held on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and we will connect to the Fauquier campus via the VCON unit.  The next three meetings will be held on October 14th, November 11th, and December 9th

After some discussion, the committee agreed that supervisors should be notified about their employee’s attendance at a conference or workshop.  The appropriate way to do this is to have the supervisor sign the application for funds.  This will enable the supervisor to plan for office or classroom coverage.

A total of fifteen Non-Tuition subsidies and one Group Activity were presented to the Committee for consideration.  The committee recommended all sixteen requests be approved, up to their individual quota.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
