Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) men's rugby team won the Cardinal Collegiate Conference and Virginia D-III State Championship on Saturday, November 16, 2013.  The LFCC Lions are the first community college rugby team to win the conference championship.  In doing so, the team has secured placement on the National Small College Rugby Organization's (NSCRO) national playoffs.

The accomplishment is grand in scale; given the men's rugby team at LFCC was formed in 2011.  This is a reflection of the coaching staff and the commitment of the students on the team.   Aaron Painter, head coach, says, "My job is to give the players the tools they need, but they put these tools in motion.  When we play, we truly believe in a family and team mentality."  The rugby season runs from August through June and the coaches and team put in countless hours to ensure such success.

LFCC will face Mount St. Mary's in the national playoffs on March 1, 2014.  The winner of the match will advance to the Region 2 Title in Jacksonville, FL.  The Region 2 winner will play in the Final Four in Glendale, CO.
