Farewell, Dr. Ski!

This is a time for celebration at Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) for three important reasons:

• A commencement ceremony was held at both campuses. 
• Hundreds of students received a degree and/or certificate.
• LFCC President John J. “Ski” Sygielski’s farewell reception was held on June 5, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fredy and Klara Kummli Student Center on the Middletown Campus!

LFCC has experienced a dramatic transformation under Dr. Ski’s leadership.  A few of the many efforts led by Dr. Ski include:

• A 25-percent increase in the number of dual-enrolled students attending the College
• Approximately $3.5 million being raised for the College since August 2003
• The coordination of the planning and construction of the Science and Health Professions Building, which is scheduled to open this year
• The development and enhancement of mutually beneficial relationships with business, education and government leaders and organizations
• The establishment of the John J. “Ski” Sygielski Endowed Scholarship
• The establishment of the Luray-Page County Center
• The establishment of 34 new funds – including 25 scholarship funds – in 2007
• The implementation of the College’s first sport program

The LFCC General Support Fund provides the College with the flexibility to apply funds to the areas of greatest need. The LFCC General Support Fund provides monies for goods and services, including employee salaries, equipment, office supplies and the LFCC Educational Foundation Inc.’s operating budget. Only 50 percent of the College’s operating budget was provided by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2006-07.  Therefore, the Foundation must rely on private funding to help fill this gap. Contributing to the LFCC General Support Fund will help LFCC build its competitiveness in attracting employees and students and maintain its reputation for excellence in teaching and learning.

In honor of Dr. Ski’s leadership and commitment to the College and community for nearly five years, please make a tax-deductible contribution of at least $25 to the LFCC General Support Fund by June 2, 2008. You can use the online contribution form to donate online.
