Creating Forms Using MS Word 2007

The Instructional Technology Office will be providing training on how to create simple "fill-outable" forms using the MS Word 2007 application.  Participants will learn to add content controls including text boxes, check boxes, and drop-down lists. Participants will then learn how to protect their forms so that formatting and editing are restricted in such a way that users of their forms can simply fill out the forms electronically using the form fields that have been included.

Creating Podcasts with the Wimba Podcaster

This is a two-part workshop.  During the first part of the workshop participants will learn how to set up a podcast using the Wimba podcaster from within the VCCS Blackboard course management system. In addition to learning how to author their own podcasts, participants will learn how to import external audio files into the Wimba podcaster. The second part of the workshop will cover how to download podcasts to your personal storage medium as MP3 files along with how to subscribe to such a podcast using iTunes and other podcatching software.

What's New in Blackboard 9

Participants of this session will be introduced to the new user interface in Blackboard 9. We will take a whirlwind tour of the "new location" of many of the commonly used features and will make it our goal to help participants feel more comfortable navigating within the new Blackboard 9 environment.

Blackboard 9 – Who Moved My Control Panel?!!!

Yikes, I can't find anything!  No worries.  During this hands-on session, we'll take a look at a side-by-side comparison of Blackboard 8 and Blackboard 9.  We'll explore where the most commonly used tools in Blackboard 8 will exist in Blackboard 9.  Participants will also receive hand-outs that clearly outline the most commonly used tools and their new location in Blackboard 9.  Upon completion, participants of this session will feel more comfortable navigating the new environment, and will experience less of a learning curve as we migrate to the new interface.

Introduction to the Classroom Performance ("clickers") System

Discover an effective and fun way to engage student learning and assess it at the same time! Clickers provide student benefits such as variety and interactivity to classroom instruction and reduction in the students' anxiety to in-class questions. Clickers provide instructor benefits such as improvement in classroom management, uncover gaps in learning, support engagement and discussion, and help assess if pace of class is matching the learning needs. Learn how to set up your class and create lessons. Then quickly advance to creating team activities and games. Everyone will leave the training equipped with the best practices for immediately using the clickers in the classroom with very little preparation. Handouts provided.

ADA Compliance

Learn how to design course materials to meet the needs of a variety of disabilities. Most design suggestions refer to online course features, such as would be used in Blackboard course sites but some suggestions could also apply to f-2-f instructional courses. Examples provided for alternatives to color-coding, table readability, document formatting, page navigation, and PowerPoint presentations. Handouts provided.

Wimba Voice Tools

Wimba Voice Tools includes a suite of audio tools that have been fully integrated into Blackboard. These tools will help you facilitate and promote vocal instruction, collaboration, coaching, and assessment. The Wimba Voice Tools include a Voice Recorder, Voice E-mail, Voice Board, Voice Direct, Voice Presenter, and Podcaster tool. Using these tools, we can easily create podcasts, voice announcements, voice e-mails, threaded voice boards, and presentations consisting of content alongside voice messages. We can even chat with our students real-time using both text and audio in a synchronous manner. These tools provide instructors an exciting opportunity to increase the interaction and student engagement level in their Web-enhanced, hybrid, and/or online courses. In this hands-on session we will provide you with an opportunity to create a voice recording using Wimba's Voice Authoring tool, a Voice Direct "conference area", a voice board, and, if time permits, send and receive a voice e-mail and/or create a Voice Podcaster.

Blackboard 9 First Steps

Faculty who are new to using the Blackboard course management system or who have yet to have experienced the new interface in Blackboard 9 are encouraged to attend this session.  Topics will include customization of your course menu; creating a welcome announcement; uploading your course syllabus; creating your instructor profile; and communicating with your students through announcements, e-mail, and Discussion Board forums.

We encourage you to draft a welcome announcement ahead of time and to bring it, along with a copy of your course syllabus, on a USB flash drive.  This will enable us to work together in a hands-on manner and to make it a productive experience for all participants.

Blackboard Drop-in Training is a time for informal exchange of information regarding Blackboard's course management system. Online Self-Paced Training

The Instructional Technology Office has developed an online Blackboard Faculty Training course. It is our hope that faculty will self-enroll in this course and make use of the resources it contains. Hence we have set it up within the Blackboard course management system in such a way that by completing the following steps you can easily self-enroll in the course and access it whenever the need arises:

  1. Open up your Web browser and go to the College's website (www.lfcc.edu)
  2. Click the LOGIN TO MY LFCC link in the upper-right corner of this page to access the MyLFCC login page.
  3. Log into the MyLFCC portal using your VCCS username and password.
  4. Click the Blackboard 8 link in the "My Tools" list to open the Blackboard course management system's window.
  5. Copy-and-paste the following link into your Web browser's address bar:
    http://learn.vccs.edu/bin/common/enroll_course.pl?course_id=_147110_1

NOTE: You MUST first log into the Blackboard course management system following steps 1–3 listed above before you try to access the page associated with this link.

  1. A "Self Enrollment" window will appear. Click the Submit button to self-enroll in the course.
  2. Click the OK button to complete the self-enrollment process.

Once you click the OK button and have successful complete the self-enrollment process, you will be taken to the Blackboard Faculty Training course.
