Fauquier County Pedestrian / Bicycle Trail Fact Sheet

Tell us how we're doing

Fauquier County has developed an extensive pedestrian/bicycle trail system plan to provide alternative off-road transportation and recreation opportunities. Construction on a key piece of the plan will begin on the Lord Fairfax Community College campus with completion contingent on additional funding. The immediate benefits of this trail across the campus include:

  • Physical education opportunities to students
  • Access to the campus stormwater pond for environmental studies
  • Preservation of a linear ecosystem for wildlife migration and flora development
  • Improvement of existing wetland area for interpretive and conservation purposes

Eventually, when the Lord Fairfax Community College section of the trail is connected to the Warrenton Branch Greenway (the existing trail) it will connect the community of Warrenton to the College campus. Students will then have an off-road corridor to ride bicycles or walk to the Fauquier Campus from the town of Warrenton and walk or ride to the town to take advantage of shopping, cultural and leisure activities.

Lord Fairfax Community College is working with the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department to complete this exciting project.
