Goal: The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) will triple the number of graduates who successfully transfer to four-year colleges and universities by 2009.

Guaranteed Admission Agreements

LFCC worked diligently in 2007-08 to promote Guaranteed Admission Agreements (GAA). What are GAAs? When students earn their associate of arts and sciences degrees from LFCC and meet certain grade point average requirements, they are guaranteed admission to participating four-year institutions. Among the 20 institutions with which the Virginia Community College System has these agreements are the most prestigious in the state, including University of Virginia, The College of William & Mary, Virginia Tech, James Madison University and University of Mary Washington.

LFCC designed a GAA brochure that features several student profiles. For example, in 2007, Patrick Hansen, a Fauquier Campus graduate, took advantage of the GAA to transfer to James Madison University. Emily Holter used the GAA to gain admission to University of Virginia. These students are among hundreds each year who choose LFCC, take advantage of the GAAs and gain guaranteed admission to the colleges and universities of their choice.

This attractive, well-written brochure was mailed to all households in LFCC's service region containing high school students, providing valuable information to thousands of prospective students and their families. Transfer Scholarships

Bealeton resident and 2008 Fauquier Campus Outstanding Graduate, David Dutton was selected to receive a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. This prestigious scholarship is designed to help community college students with exceptional promise and demonstrated financial need make the transition to four-year colleges and universities. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is the largest offered in the U.S. to community college transfer students, with awards totaling up to $30,000 per year for up to three years. The amount and duration of the scholarships vary for each student, according to the cost of attendance at the school, the length of the program and other grants and scholarships received. David is LFCC's first student to receive this scholarship. He is now attending University of Mary Washington.
