Goal: The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) must serve at least 16,000 new students by 2009.

Enrollment Management Initiative

In 2007-08, Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) engaged in its first strategic enrollment management planning initiative to address the rapidly changing needs of the students within our service region. The LFCC 2007-08 Enrollment Management Plan focuses on four recruitment goals and four retention goals. The recruitment goals strive to increase the number of new full- and part-time students who enroll, as well as to increase underrepresented populations and the dual enrollment population. LFCC retention goals are focused on increasing persistence rates — the number of students who enroll and return for subsequent semesters — and increasing three-year graduation rates, which is the rate of students who earn a degree within three years of enrolling.

Financial Aid Opportunities Expand

LFCC experienced a 17-percent increase in the number of financial aid applications and a 21-percent increase in the number of financial aid awards during 2007-08, resulting in more than $2.9 million in financial aid being granted to LFCC students. Also in 2007-08, the College offered 64 additional scholarships, which amounted to over $110,000 in financial aid awards.

GED Scholarship Program

In October 2007, the College Board allocated funding for a new General Educational Development (GED) Scholarship Program to encourage new GED recipients in the LFCC service region to pursue a degree from the College. The scholarship program covers the cost of tuition for a one-credit student development class for 20 new GED recipients. The goal of this program is to promote a love for learning by introducing this group of students to the higher education opportunities available at LFCC.

College View Book

The Office of College Advancement (OCA) regularly assists with all goals of the College by providing outstanding marketing support and materials. Particularly in support of enrollment, the OCA developed a new College View Book – chock full of inspiring student testimonials and valuable program and support services information! This View Book impacts the College, because now, all employees engaging in student recruitment efforts can access and distribute this comprehensive, professional publication. View the College View Book, the transfer brochure and other 2007-08 LFCC publications.
