Crystal Fletcher began working at VF Jeanswear in Woodstock, Va., right after she graduated from high school in 1988. She had been there for 14 years when it closed its doors in 2002. Fortunately, under the U.S. Department of Labor's Trade Act, the company offered to send her back to school, so she could learn the skills necessary to be competitive in the workforce. As a result, Fletcher enrolled at Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC), and she's kept moving forward ever since.
In May 2005, Fletcher received her associate of applied science degree in administrative support technology from LFCC. At the same time, she also received an Office Systems Assistant Certificate and an Information Processing Technician Career Studies Certificate. In June of that same year, she was hired as LFCC's enrollment services assistant, and she continues in this position today. Fletcher helps students apply to colleges and register for classes, and she offers them support as they work to earn their degree. She said she loves the feeling she gets from helping students work to achieve their dreams.
In her spare time, Fletcher enjoys spending time with her husband, Jon, and two sons, Jacob and Justin. When asked about her time at LFCC, Fletcher responded: "My time at LFCC helped me to realize that having an education is a very important part of life. I am so thankful that I was given the chance to get a college education, especially at a wonderful community college like LFCC."
