MIDDLETOWN and WARRENTON, Va. – The Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) Educational Foundation Inc. recently announced the appointment of two new Board members. ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Karen Bucher will serve a one-year term, and Jim Cobb will serve a three-year term.

Bucher, a Stephens City resident, works at LFCC as the director of enrollment management/registrar. In this position, she oversees the College's Financial Aid Office, the Admissions and Records Office and the Testing Center. She is also responsible for the implementation of an enrollment management plan, which focuses on increased student recruitment and retention. Bucher began working at LFCC in 2004 as the coordinator of financial aid programs. Bucher holds an associate degree in education and human services from LFCC, a bachelor's degree in psychology from Shenandoah University and a master's degree in human services counseling from Liberty University. In addition, Bucher is currently working on her doctorate in community college leadership through Old Dominion University.

"My role at LFCC is very diverse: donor, alum and employee. My role in the Financial Aid Office, however, has given me new insight into how much of an impact the LFCC Educational Foundation has on the College and its students. I am looking forward to working on the Foundation Board to further expand my role with LFCC and encourage our community to give to LFCC. Investing in our students is a wonderful gift," Bucher said.

Cobb, a Front Royal resident, recently retired after 38 years as an educator in Warren County. During his career, Cobb taught math, served as a guidance director and worked as a supervisor of testing. He graduated from Clarke County High School and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in history from Bridgewater College and master's degree in counseling from James Madison University.

"For 12 years, I was director of guidance at Warren County High [School]. I saw how LFCC and its scholarships helped many students. LFCC's Foundation is a great cause, and I wanted to get involved," Cobb said.
