LFCC Educational Foundation Inc. Establishes New Scholarship Funds

MIDDLETOWN and WARRENTON, Va. - The Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) Educational Foundation Inc. has added four new scholarships to its list of available funds to assist LFCC students with their education.
The new scholarships and their qualifying criteria are as follows:
- Denise Broy Scholarship for Excellence - Established in honor of Denise Broy, supervisor of the Printing Services Office at LFCC who began her career at the College in 1977, the Denise Broy Scholarship for Excellence will be awarded annually to a full- and/or part-time LFCC student who resides in Shenandoah County and is a single parent. The scholarship award may be applied toward tuition, fees and/or books and will be divided equally between two semesters. Satisfactory academic progress (minimum grade point average of 3.0) must be maintained in order for the recipient to receive the award for the second semester.
- Laurel Hill Farms Scholarship - Established by Mr. and Mrs. Randall Kennedy Sr. of Woodstock, Va., the Laurel Hill Farms Scholarshipwill be awarded annually to a full-time LFCC student who resides in Shenandoah County. The scholarship award may be applied toward tuition, fees and/or books and will be divided equally between two semesters. Satisfactory academic progress (minimum grade point average of 2.0) must be maintained in order for the recipient to receive the award for the second semester.
- Morgan S. Phenix Scholarship - Established by Morgan Phenix, the Morgan S. Phenix Scholarship will be awarded annually to full- and/or part-time students who are graduating seniors from Luray High School or Page County High School. Preference will be given to first-generation college students. The scholarship award may be applied toward tuition, fees and/or books and will be divided equally between two semesters. Satisfactory academic progress (minimum grade point average of 2.0) must be maintained in order for the recipient to receive the award for the second semester.
In addition to establishing the Morgan S. Phenix Scholarship, in 2007, Phenix also established the Dr. Philip and Gena Phenix Endowed Scholarship in memory of his parents. A committed and dedicated educator, Phenix held a number of teaching positions and retired as the principal of Page County High School in Shenandoah, Va., in June 2008. He was appointed interim dean of humanities, math and social sciences at LFCC in July 2008.
- Rimback Family Scholarship - Established in memory of Christian E. Rimback, the Rimback FamilyScholarship will be awarded annually to full- and/or part-time LFCC students enrolled in one of the following business degree programs:
o Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree in Business Administration
o Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting
o Associate of Applied Science Degree in Management
o Associate of Applied Science Degree in Management: Business Information Technology Specialization
o Associate of Applied Science Degree in Management: Marketing Specialization
The scholarship award may be applied toward tuition, fees and/or books and will be divided equally between two semesters. Satisfactory academic progress (minimum grade point average of 3.0) must be maintained in order for the recipient to receive the award for the second semester.
In addition to the aforementioned scholarships, the Foundation has many other scholarship funds that provide funding to full- and part-time students. Individuals interested in donating to LFCC scholarship funds may make a check payable to "LFCC Educational Foundation Inc." Please write on the memo line the name of the fund that will be receiving the contribution and mail the check to the LFCC Educational Foundation Inc., 173 Skirmisher Lane, Middletown, VA 22645-1745.
