Interim President

John S. Capps assumed the position of interim president of Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) in June 2008. In this position, Capps is responsible for managing a seven-person Cabinet and the College, which includes three locations — the Fauquier and Middletown Campuses and the Luray-Page County Center — and outreach sites throughout the College’s service region.

To serve as LFCC’s interim president, Capps is taking a temporary leave of absence from his position as vice president of academic and student affairs at Virginia Western Community College (VWCC), a position he has held since 2002.

During his tenure at VWCC, Capps has held numerous administrative positions, including interim dean of the Division of Humanities, director of distance learning, interim dean of the Division of Health Technology and Natural Sciences and Mathematics and interim director of development. Prior to these administrative roles, Capps served as an instructor and professor of English and program head of English at VWCC, beginning in 1978.

Capps earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English and a doctorate in education, curriculum and instruction from Virginia Tech.
