Vice President of Student Success

Cynthia S. Bambara began working at Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) in 1992 as a student services specialist. Advancing her career throughout the years, Bambara served as a counselor and director of student services before becoming the vice president of student success at LFCC in 2004. In addition, Bambara serves as the campus administrator for Fauquier.

In her current role, Bambara leads the College’s comprehensive student success program including academic advising, admissions, career and transfer counseling, college success skills, disability services, financial aid, graduation, recruitment, registration, student activities, student orientation and student outreach.

Prior to joining LFCC, Bambara worked as a career and academic counselor at Northern Virginia Community College, Furman University and the Florida Department of Rehabilitative Services.

Bambara holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Juniata College and a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from the University of South Alabama. In 2007, she earned a doctorate of philosophy in community college leadership from Colorado State University.

Recognized in 2003 as LFCC’s Administrator of the Year, Bambara’s leadership was also acknowledged in 1999 when she received the Outstanding Professional Award for a Two-Year Institution from the Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators. Bambara is also a graduate of the 2005 inaugural class of LEAD Virginia, a program that connects diverse leaders to promote a statewide perspective about the quality of life in the Commonwealth and to discuss challenges, opportunities and major issues facing Virginia.

Bambara is a member of the following professional associations: American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, American Educational Research Association, Association on Higher Education and Disability, National Academic Advising Association, Virginia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators.
