Library Resources Available Online
- How does interlibrary loan work?
If you need library materials that the LFCC Libraries don't own, we can request them from another library. Books and media items will be sent through the mail to us, and we loan the material to you and return it to the other library for you. Articles from journals and magazines are usually sent as photocopies and will be yours to keep.
- Is there a charge for ILL?
LFCC does not charge a fee for Interlibrary Loan service, but some lending libraries may charge a lending fee. We will always try to find a free source for your material, but you must pay any fees imposed by the lending library. You will also be accountable for charges required by the lender in the event an item is lost or damaged. Before processing your request, we will inform you of any charges and secure your agreement to pay them. When paying for ILL charges, present a check for the amount due. Checks should be made payable to the lending library, not Lord Fairfax.
- How long can I keep the material? May I renew it?
The lending library determines the length of time an item may be borrowed. Other restrictions may apply and we will inform you of these when you pick up the item(s) at the Circulation Desk. Most books from other libraries are not renewable, so make it a point to finish the material prior to the designated due date. If a renewal is needed, the request must be submitted prior to the due date.
- Who can use ILL?
ILL service is available to LFCC faculty, staff, and students. As a service to the community, ILL is also available to patrons of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren counties. You must have a LFCC library card to request Interlibrary Loans through our library.
- What kind of materials can I request?
Books, articles from journals, magazines, and newspapers are normally available. Audiovisual materials, such as VHS or DVD films, can be requested but are sometimes more difficult to obtain. If you have questions about requesting something, please contact us.
- How many requests can I make?
LFCC faculty, students, and staff are currently not limited in the
number of requests per week they may submit. We reserve the right
to establish priorities of service in instances where the number of requests
received from a single patron might adversely affect the service offered to
others. Community patrons who are not students may submit three requests per month.
- How do I request an item?
- Prior to submitting a request, check our library resources - our catalog, the periodical holdings list for periodicals and here to see if an article is available full-text. We cannot request items we have in our collection.
- A separate ILL request form is required for each citation. An online form is available, and paper forms are also available at both Libraries.
- Please fill out the request forms completely - requests with inadequate citations will be returned.
- Do not submit duplicate requests for the same item.
- Make a copy of the request for your records.
- We will contact you when your material arrives.
- Materials may be picked up at the Circulation desk at the campus library you specify.
- Materials that need to be returned can be returned to either campus library.
