Getting Started
Contact your high school counselor regarding your interest in dual enrollment. If home schooled, contact the Admissions Office.
Application
Submit a completed application for admission to the College. Applications are available on the College's Web site. Incomplete applications for admission or in-state applications usually delay acceptance.
Placement Testing
You must complete placement testing BEFORE you can register for classes. Some high schools do placement testing in their high school. Contact your high school counselor for information. For testing at LFCC, contact the Testing Center for testing dates and times at 540-868-7140 or toll free 800-906-5322 ext. 7140. (At the Fauquier Campus, call the counselor at 540-351-1507 to schedule an appointment for testing.) There is no fee for testing. You must have legal photo ID to complete the testing. This includes a state issued ID card available at the DMV, a driver's license, learner's permit or passport. High school identification cards are not accepted. Students with SAT scores of 500 verbal/500 math may waive placement testing. A copy of the SAT scores is required when registering for classes. Placement test scores are available on the unofficial transcript.
Registration for Courses
Dual enrollment students DO NOT register online.
For students taking courses at their high school:
Fall enrollment forms are purple, spring enrollment forms are yellow. You may obtain these forms from your high school guidance counselor. The form requires the signatures of the student, parent or guardian and the high school principal or designee. High school students age 18 or older are still required to have their parent/guardian signature. Completed forms are turned into the guidance counselor along with placement test score or SAT scores and tuition.
For students taking courses on the LFCC campus or online:
The enrollment form for all semesters is green and is available in the Office of Admissions and Records. Use the website or class schedule to obtain course information regarding specific days, times, and instructors. On-campus Dual Enrollment forms must be signed by the student, parent or guardian, the high school guidance counselor or principal (or designee) and an LFCC counselor. The Counselor will review your courses for accurate placement. You will not be permitted to enroll in courses unless the form is complete and has the appropriate signatures. High school students age 18 or older are still required to have their parent/guardian signature. Registration forms are turned in to the Admissions and Records Office in person. Enrollment forms are not to be mailed.
For home schooled students:
Home schooled students may dual enroll in classes on campus with the green enrollment form available in the Office of Admissions and Records. Parents may sign as both the parent and the high school principal/counselor. An LFCC Counselor must also sign the green registration form. The Counselor will review your courses for accurate placement. Registration forms are turned in to the Admissions and Records Office in person. Enrollment forms are not to be mailed.
At the time a home schooled student completes their high school graduation requirements, they are required to furnish us a letter stating this. If the student is younger than the normal age of their class, the parent must provide documentation of the level of education attained and their request for the student to be enrolled as a regular student at LFCC. The request will be evaluated and forwarded to the Vice President of Student Success or Vice President of Learning or their designee for evaluation. If a student is younger than their classmates and had a GED, they qualify to be admitted as a regular student. In Virginia the age requirement is 18. In West Virginia they can take the GED at the age of 16.
For ALL Dual Enrollment Students:
You will only be permitted to enroll in the courses designated on the form. A new form must be completed for each term. A copy of your SAT or placement test results must be attached. Dual enrollment students must register for credit-bearing courses only. Enrollment in developmental courses and auditing courses is not permitted.
Tuition, Textbooks and Supplies
Pay tuition and purchase required books and supplies. Once you have registered for courses, all tuition and fees must be paid by the established deadline or guaranteed to avoid your registration being voided (contact the College's Business Office to determine how to submit guarantee).
Beginning Classes
